“Follow the Leader” 11/24/2008

When you were a child, did you ever play follow the leader? I can remember the game but nothing really significant about the game itself. However, when Jesus called out His disciples, He instructed each of them to follow Him. That statement had certain implications to it. For instance, when Jesus preached early in His ministry, He declared a message that prompted the listener to react. The message was, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near” (Matthew 4:17). The Kingdom of which Jesus spoke was His rule in the hearts and lives of those He chose to follow Him. He is the King, and the followers who by repentance, confess Jesus as Lord and Savior, are His subjects. He is the master, and we are His servants. Servants who have the task of completing and representing His work.
One thing we must note about this relationship with Jesus is that He is the Master and we are the servants, subject to His commands. We are never to assume that we are to tell the Master what to do. He decides what is important and the servant joins Him in the work that He is doing.
Just as Jesus knew and did the work of the Father, (John 5:17, 19-20), we should seek to know what God is doing and pray for His kingdom to come and His will to be done.
It is sad but true that we often forget that we are servants to a Divine Master. We are so caught up in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives that I have to wonder, in all my hurried ways was anyone able to see God in me. I pray often that God will show me where I am lacking in my service to Him, how can I be a better servant? wife? mother? employee? supervisor? I feel like I am always apologizing to Him and to others for not being the best that I can be. The times that things have gone bad for me have been the times that I didn’t take time to ask God for his guidance. I am in nature an impatient person and I don’t take time to wait for His will/work. I try hard to do God’s work but I get to feeling sorry for myself and that shines through many times instead of my Love for Him. I have so much to be thankful for and between Joe’s sermon and this post, I can see it. I want to Thank God right now for all that He has sent into my life to help me see when I have blinders on. Thank you, Mr. Porter for taking time to post words of encouragement for us to see. Love Ya!
I just read all the posts since last i visited this forum. I am very thankful that God understands my imperfectness. I am always trying to run the show, even though I know better. I have found that He has a way of reminding me when I get too big for my britches. Praying Thy Will be Done has an immediate effect of putting things into perspective, although I may have to pray it more than once ( sometimes several times a day) I learned that God will allow us to use our talents to help others, but there are sometimes that he requires that you hand the situation to Him. It has been my experience that when he requires that of me, what happens is not what I expected and far greater than I would have even dreamed of asking for. So, I am Thankful today for Roy’s words, which made me thank God an extra time this day for His patience and power. Happy Thanks Giving.
